The storm turned around its own center, but its course across the Gulf did not change.

Through Friday evening, the steering pattern that had carried the hurricane west-northwest remained in place. Each new estimate extended the track toward the upper Texas coast. The turn once expected toward Louisiana or the northeast had not occurred.
