Labor Day fell on September 2 in 1935.

Before dawn, the Weather Bureau warned of high tides and gales in the Florida Keys as the hurricane moved through the Straits. The warning reached the FERA office at the Matecumbe Hotel at approximately 3:30 that morning.

Ray Sheldon was there with the camps.

Fred Ghent was in Jacksonville.
